Village Shalom has named Margaret Wanjiku, certified medical assistant, as Employee of the Year for 2008. Two employees also were selected to share the title of Rookie of the Year: Adam Droegemueller, Villas concierge, and Jimmy Nickle, dining services sous chef. The honorees were announced at Village Shalom’s annual employee recognition ceremony and holiday celebration.
Tryon Estates, a continuing care retirement community (CCRC) in
Columbus, North Carolina, has been accredited for another five-year
term by CARF-CCAC, an independent accrediting organization serving the
senior services field. Accreditation is widely considered the
retirement industry’s seal of excellence for how well a community meets
or exceeds rigorous standards in administration, financial
accountability, health care and resident services.
he fourth Joseph and Eleanor Wolff Excellence in Care Giving Award was
presented Jan. 8, 2009, at Village Shalom to Sharon Soeken, R.N., night
house supervisor. She has been a member of the Village Shalom staff
since October 2005. Sharon was nominated by her peers, including fellow
nurses and certified nursing assistants (CNAs), and was selected from a
field of six nominees to receive the honor.

A new study launched by researchers at Quinnipiac University will attempt to determine whether seniors monitored by Healthsense, Inc.’s wireless sensor technology at the Masonicare healthcare and retirement community in Wallingford, Conn., are able to remain independent for longer, delay being admitted to a hospital or nursing home, and better attend to their own basic daily needs. Pacific Retirement Services, Inc. (PRS), a national leader in the senior living and health care industry (www.retirement.org), announced today that it is launching the Silverchair Learning Management System across its family of retirement communities in five states.
